Dr. Shimer grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended college at University of Notre Dame and attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas for both medical school and residency training. He then was in private practice for 4 years in North Carolina prior to coming to McKinney. He was also involved with teaching residents at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a clinical instructor. Dr. Shimer has one daughter, born in 2001.
